Museum & Gallery Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR) is a Creative Industry Tax Relief. Since MGETR was introduced in 2017, £20 million has been paid to 220 claims, representing 1,345 exhibitions. As a tax credit, it is administered by HMRC and submitted in Annual Returns.
The Tax Relief provides valuable additional income to support artists, engage with diverse audiences, take risks and innovate, and place culture at the heart of the UK’s covid & energy crisis recovery plans.
CVAN has been working with over a 100 museum, gallery and artist-led organisations to support understandings of how to claim, where the barriers to claim are and how best to make ready for claiming. CVAN London has hosted meetings and workshops to support the uptake of applications. London members – Artangel, Chisenhale Gallery and PEER contributed case studies to help galleries, commissioners and artist-led organisations apply for the Tax Relief.
We thank CVAN London members, partners and affiliates for their work towards securing this extension and commit to the work of securing the removal of the sunset clause.
