Communications Manager, Gasworks

 Please tell us about yourself

I am the Communications Manager at Gasworks, I also run and present a radio show on Soho Radio, platforming women and non-binary-led projects across the culture sector.

I have experience in communications work in the culture sector, as well as in production and broadcasting.

Within my radio work, and at Gasworks, platforming creative projects and also work that provides different perspectives is a priority of mine. I enjoy exploring these projects because I like to promote creativity and inclusivity, and I strive to explore and promote new ways of thinking as much as possible.

What was your journey into the arts?

I have always been interested in the arts and had parents who both worked in the creative industries. I intended to pursue writing and went to the University of Manchester to study English Literature. However, when I joined South London Gallery as a Gallery Assistant after graduating, I realised that the visual arts sector was a world I wanted to be part of

 What inspires you?

The sharing of new ideas and human experience is deeply inspiring to me. I think human connection and understanding fosters creativity and creative freedom.

Why should people join CVAN London?

CVAN offers the opportunity to be part of a great network of people working in the arts sector and to share experiences, challenges, projects and advice. Importantly, it provides a community with support and resources during a time when many visual arts organisations are facing challenges

What are your goals for CVAN London?

To learn from, and contribute to, a network that fosters creativity, support and change for the better

What is one piece of advice or learning that resonates with you right now as part of the AREVA writers room?

I am enjoying trying to remain open in the meetings while doing the work, which I feel is something that is helpfully encouraged on the course.

What's coming up ?

At Gasworks we continue to have a full programme of events and exhibitions, currently our exhibition Alternative Central Area Locations by Rahima Gambo is open until September.

I also continue to produce and present my monthly radio show, the next episode explores potential and imagined futures, with guests artist Fani Parali and Founding Director of Incubator, Angelica Jopling.

A favourite art moment in London:

Seeing the sunset light on Richard Wentworth’s ‘Agora’ each year on the rooftop in Peckham, as part of Bold Tendencies.
